Deepika Padukone is not romancing Sushant Singh Rajupt in Shekhar Kapur’s ‘Paani’

Confirms Shekhar Kapur,but could be considered for a cameo

Soon after Shekhar Kapur praised Deepika Padukone for her performance in Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-leela,speculations were rife that the film-maker might approach the actress to play the female lead in Paani. Reports also started floating that the films producer Yash Raj Films were in negotiations with Deepika Padukone to rope her in their ambitious project.

Though nothing has been confirmed as yet,from the actress’ side,when contacted YRF’s spokesperson sent an official confirmation that read: “Paani will have a strong Indian and western star cast. The lead actor,Sushant Singh Rajput will share screen space with a young leading actress from the West.

When contacted Shekhar Kapur,who’s helming the project,he cleared the air saying,”We are in negotiations with a young and well-known Hollywood actress,who will be cast opposite Sushant. So it is not Deepika who will be seen opposite him in the film. Though not in the the lead,but will Deepika Padukone be seen in a cameo in Paani? When quizzed,Shekhar Kapur replied,”Well,I cannot comment about that.”

To be shot in India and overseas,Paani is based in a future world where wars over water have broken out. The story unfolds with water as a commodity being owned by International Corporations who use thirst as a weapon of control. In one such future city,a young love story breaks all the rules and in the ensuing war,water flows back to its people. The film goes on floor by mid-2014. Oscar winning musician A. R. Rahman has been roped in to compose the music for the film.
