Sunny Gupta (25), who was arrested by the Hauz Khas police on Tuesday for allegedly stalking, criminally intimidating and attempting to abduct a 22-year-old girl, has three previous cases registered against him, South Delhi police officers said on Thursday. Two of these cases are registered at the Vasant Vihar police station, while one is registered at the Mehrauli police station.
A senior police officer said Sunny was arrested for involvement in brawls in all the cases, and was later released on bail. “The brawls were allegedly a result of misbehaviour by him or his friends. When the complainants objected, he and his friends beat them up,” said a police officer.
Sunny was allegedly stalking the girl for the last few months and attempted to abduct her near the Deer Park area of Hauz Khas on June 6, where she had gone for a morning walk. The victim, who is a student of a fashion institute in South Delhi, stated in her complaint that Gupta tried to force her into a car at knifepoint, but she managed to escape.
“The girl approached us only two days ago after her father arrived in Delhi. She had been in a state of trauma ever since the accused started following her wherever she went and even harassed her with calls,” a police officer said.
The accused is a graduate and helps his father in his business in Mehrauli. He is presently in judicial custody. The police have taken down his statement as well.
