The 14-day cycling expedition covering about 1200 kms from Pune to Saugor was flagged off from Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC). This expedition is being organised to commemorate the XII reunion function of the Mahar Regiment and to foster a regimental spirit-de corps and bondage between retired and serving personnel. The expedition also seeks to spread the message of environmental awareness and highlight the importance of cycling amongst ordinary citizens. The expedition will cover significant places in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh related with the Mahar Regiment’s glorious history and will conclude in Saugor on December 9. The commemoration started with the tunes of various Army bands. This was soon followed by a Paragliding show performed by ‘Meghdoot’ the Paratrooper team of Army. Lt Gen R K Swamy, chief of Staff Southern Command, said, “All the riders will be meeting retired Jawaans and their families in the course of their expedition and this will also popularise Mahar Regiment among youths and persuade them to join Army.” The expedition has been organised with TI Cycles of India.
