Principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar on Friday slammed defence counsel B Aloor in the 2009 case of the rape and murder of a software engineer, for repeatedly arguing that witness Jayram Pandit, the owner of the car allegedly used in the crime, was lying. During cross examination, advocate Aloor repeatedly argued that Pandit was lying.
While being examined by Special Public Prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar, Pandit said he had given his car to a travel agency on rent which was further hired by Synechron company to pick and drop employees. Vishwas Kadam, a suspect in case, was the driver of the car.
Pandit said that on October 12, 2009, Kadam came to him with a person named Bapu Bhandari and said he would drive the car as he was going to Satara. Pandit said that on October 16 police approached him seeking information about Kadam. Advocate Aloor intervened but the judge asked him to behave following which he left the court. Later, during cross examination, Aloor claimed the witness was lying. Judge slammed Aloor saying only the court can decide truth or lies.
The victim, an employee of Synechron was raped and murdered and her body was found near Rajguru Nagar in Khed on October 8, 2009.
