  • BJP vice-president Kalyan Singh took a tough posture on Saturday while refusing to attend a review meeting here to discuss the debacle of the party in recent Assembly polls.

Ignoring pressure from the Central leadership to attend the meeting, Singh told them that there was "no point" discussing the election defeat with the same leaders whose selfish approach was responsible for the poor result.

State in-charge of the party Arun Jaitley, who had held one such meeting at his residence in New Delhi last month, had convened the Saturday's meeting in Lucknow. With president of the state unit of the party Kesri Nath Tripathi too staying away, the meeting proved to be a lacklustre affair. Tripathi is undergoing treatment for slipped disc. BJP Legislature Party leader Om Prakash Singh, senior leader Lalji Tandon and all 403 contestants of the Assembly election, including the 50 winners, were present at the meeting.
