A hindu woman and Muslim man who allegedly defied their families and got married recently were kidnapped from outside Tis Hazari courts on Wednesday evening, according to their lawyer.

The couple’s lawyer, G M Rana, has told the police that Khushboo Singh, 23, and Shoaib Siddiqui, 27, got married in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, about two months ago. Siddiqui is from Aligarh and Khushboo comes from Moradabad, in western UP.

The police have registered an FIR against unknown persons under IPC Sections 365 (kidnapping) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Rana said they fled UP and came to the Capital in September-end and were staying at a friend’s house in Dwarka.

According to the FIR, registered at Sabzi Mandi police station on Rana’s complaint, Khushboo and Siddiqui had gone to meet their lawyer Rana in the Tis Hazari courts on Wednesday. Rana told Newsline that they left from gate number 2, where he saw a metallic colour Innova waiting.

The lawyer had come out with them and was walking behind when, suddenly, a few persons came out of the vehicle and forced the couple inside, he said. “The car sped off immediately and though I tried to give a chase, it was futile,” Rana said. “I called the Police Control Room after that.”

Rana said Khushboo and Siddiqui met about two years ago at the telecommunication company they worked for in Moradabad. Siddiqui recently got transferred to Aligarh and Khushboo’s relatives got to know about their relationship and forced her to quit her job in Moradabad, he said. This was in June, this year.

Sick people on both sidesBy: observer | 18-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward The case is simiiar to that which occured in Jammu and Kashmir state last month. One Rajneesh from Jammu had married a Muslim girl Ameena from Srinagar after they fell in love with each other after Rajneesh's frequent business trips from Jammu to Srinagar. The girl's father who is a policeman from the Valley of Srinagar had the boy picked up from Jammu and taken to Srinagar. He was later apparently murdered and his death made to look like suicide in the jail lock up. Sick people are there from both sides. For you all that matters is blame the RSS.
Very SadBy: Krishna | 17-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward The fundamental thing in this story is that breaking the law is never justified no matter how unhappy you are with someone's decision. It is a separate thing that marriage is only the business of the two people getting married and a decision about it should be no one else's concern. It is very sad that in this day and age people are not allowed to enjoy basic human freedoms in our country. Freedom to marry whom you want is a fundamental for a happy and free human existence. This is not too far from the behaviour of the Taliban, or even of the racist US states of the South until a few decades ago when intermarriages were not allowed. We must hang our heads in shame that our citizens are being held captive to criminals.
