There seems to be no end to the trouble of Dr Sumit Sofat, a Ludhiana-based doctor, as after Panchkula, the Dehradun police is also on a look out for him after a case of rape under Section 376 of IPC was registered against him on Tuesday by them. Sofat, the owner of Sofat hospital in Ludhiana had got a fake case of attempt to murder and robbery of Rs 33 lakh registered against Ramesh Pashan and his family members recently.

It was learnt that Sofat had also got a fake case of gang rape registered with the Dehradun police against Pashan.

Talking to Newsline, Dehradun SHO, Inspector Kailash Panwar said, “It was on July 28, when a Ropar-based woman gave a written complaint to Dehradun police against Ramesh Pashan and his friends alleging that she was gang-raped by them in a hotel in Dehradun on the pretext of giving her a job of receptionist in their factory at Dehradun.”

Panwar added, “On verifying, we came to know that it was a fake complaint and instead the women had been gang raped by Sofat and his men. It was also found that it was on the direction of Dr Sumit Sofat and one of his Ludhiana- based relatives, Baljinder Kaur that she had got a gang rape case registered against Ramesh Pashan. It was on the basis of this that Baljinder Kaur was arrested and has been sent to judicial custody for criminal conspiracy. We are now on a look out for the doctor with the help of the Punjab Police”.
