Delhi blast: 2nd,4th emails traced to Kolkata,one held

According to sources,NIA has detained one Sunny Sharma from Kolkata for interrogation.

Investigation into the Delhi blast has revealed that the second and the fourth mails,which were reportedly traced to have been surfaced from Kolkata and its outskirts,were sent from a mobile phone which had a sim card of Kolkata.

A senior Special Task Force official in Kolkata confirmed that the sim card,which was reportedly used to send the e-mails to media channels and Delhi police,is registered with a private service provider in Kolkata.

A team of NIA officials and Delhi police officials visited Kolkata for interrogating some of the suspected persons who were picked up from the outskirts of Kolkata in the past couple of days.

According to sources,the team of NIA has detained one Sunny Sharma from Kolkata for interrogation. NIA arrested Sharma from Kolkata on Tuesday for allegedly sending emails claiming responsibility of the blast and threatening further attacks,said a senior police official. Sources said that Sunny Sharma’s gmail account was used for sending the second and the fourth e-mails. There were a total number of four e-mails that were sent after the blast in which Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI),a Bangladesh based terror group,and the Indian Mujahideen (IM) had claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile,tracking the sim cards,the STF on September 10 picked up two suspected persons including a teenager from Arambag. According to sources,a team of STF reached Arambag early in the morning. The STF team picked up 18-year-old Souvick Sahani of Dakshinpara,Mohanpur in Arambag and 26-year-old Prabir Kundu of Ratnapally in Arambag. The STF team lodged a general diary (GD number 748 dated 10teh September) in Arambag police station and brought the duo to Kolkata for interrogation.

Rajiv Kumar,Assistant Commissioner of Police,STF,however said,”We picked up the suspected persons as the ip address of the emails were traced to have surfaced from their places. They were detained for an inquiry. But we did not find anything significant and we did not arrest them.”

Meanwhile,police have arrested one Mohammad Afzal Sayed from Bagnan in Howrah Distrisct after he was detected with splinter injuries on his hand and face. According to sources,Sayed went to a Uluberia hospital for treatment,however,seeing his injuries caused by a blast,doctors informed the police station. He was detained and a team from STF interrogated him. He was arrested today. “We have arrested Sayed. He has sustained blast injuries. He is not a clean man and he might have links with the blast incident,” said Rabindranath Mukherjee,SP,Howrah.

A person with injuries and suspected to be connected with the Delhi High Court blast has been arrested after he failed to give details about himself at a hospital in West Bengal’s Howrah district,police said.

The man,Syed Afjal Taher,went to the Bagnan rural hospital and sought medication yesterday,SP Rabindranath Banerjee said.

The man with injuries in his left palm,face and leg and head wrapped in a blood-soaked bandage,approached a doctor at the hospital and asked for pain killers,police said.

He was admitted but kept under police surveillance at the hospital after he refused to give his name and address. He was arrested today and sent to judicial custody,they said.

Asked how the man was connected with the blasts,Banerjee said,”There are some discrepancies in his statement and it is not clear why he went to Bagnan. He has not been able to give answers properly.”

According to police,the man was from Banke district of Uttar Pradesh and could speak fluent Hindi,English and Nepali,though his mother-tongue is Urdu.

The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police also interrogated Taher.
