Delhi Metro chugs into Yamuna Bank on May 2

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will extend its Line 3 -Dwarka Sector 9 to Indraprastha-to Yamuna Bank from May 2. The new route will add 2.1 kilometres to the length and breadth of the Metro network.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will extend its Line 3 — Dwarka Sector 9 to Indraprastha — to Yamuna Bank from May 2. The new route will add 2.1 kilometres to the length and breadth of the Metro network.

The opening of this station is likely to reduce the vehicular traffic on the Nizamuddin and ITO bridges that connect East Delhi with the rest of the city. Both these bridges are major traffic bottlenecks, especially during peak hours.

The first train will chug out of Yamuna Bank at 6 am and go to Dwarka via Indraprastha. Trains will be available on the new route till 11 pm every day.

“The frequency will be from four to 10 minutes, approximately, depending on the peak-hour traffic requirement,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson,DMRC.

“The opening of the Yamuna Bank station will also ease pressure on Line-I (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) as commuters from East Delhi can directly take Line 3 from Yamuna Bank. They will not have to change trains at Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk any longer,” Dayal explained.

The DMRC now plans to open the new train maintenance depot located at Yamuna Bank. “New trains can be commissioned and stationed here for the trial runs for the Noida extension scheduled to start in May or June. This line will be opened to the public in October,” he added.

The depot can stable nearly 40 trains at a time and has facilities to wash them and handle technical repairs.
