Delhi Police arrest Hizbul man,carry out raids in Jama Masjid area

A terror plot targetting Delhi has been unearthed and prime suspect arrested,claim police.

A suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was arrested from Uttar Pradesh with Delhi Police today claiming that they have unearthed a plot to create terror in the national capital ahead of Holi.

The alleged operative Liaqat Ali,who hails from Kupwara

in Jammu and Kashmir,was on way to Delhi in a train when he was arrested from Gorakhpur,police sources said.

Sources claimed that he told them that some weapons were kept for him in a guest house in a Central Delhi locality.

Early morning raids by the Delhi Police were carried out in the old Delhi area of Jama Masjid,Chandni Chowk,which is but a stones throw away from where the India vs Australia Test is underway.

Police claim that they also seized an AK-47 automatic rifle and ammunition.

Security in the nearby areas,which was already on high alert,has been stepped up further and – police are looking for more operatives who might have sneaked in.

The last time this particular area,Jama Masjid,suffered a terror hit was when Taiwanese tourists were shot at on 19 September 2010.

Two men on a bike fired their gun at the tourists injuring two of them. With the Commonwealth Games round the corner then,it sent the entire security apparatus into a tizzy.
