Even before Delhi had conceded the first innings lead in their Ranji Trophy match versus Hyderabad in Uppal, the blame game started within the DDCA ranks.
Daggers are out within the selection committee on the issue of the overall fitness standards of the team.
Ashish Nehra could only bowl three overs before pulling his hamstring on Tuesday. This latest injury and the ‘reported’ niggles of other team members have resulted in the selectors taking potshots at each other.
“The selectors want a complete review of the fitness of the team. We want a detailed report of the team in writing by the physio, once the team returns,” Anil Jain, one of the selectors, said.
Adding fuel to the fire, another questioned the fitness standards of others in the team and held the chairman of selection committee, Chetan Chauhan, accountable for “falsifying facts”.
“Chetan made us believe that the entire team is fit, but clearly they re are not. Nehra, Awana, Nanda and even Manhas is not fit,” he told Sportline.
However, Chauhan has dismissed any suggestion that he was responsible for the “fitness problems” of the team.
“I have not made any commitment on behalf of the team regarding their fitness to the selection committee. These are all false accusations,” he said.
“We selected the team based on the fitness assessment of the physio and the captain and the coach's recommendations,” he clarified.
