Delhi terror accused used Karnataka SIM to call handler in Pak

One of the three suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba men arrested in March — for carrying out explosions in Chandni Chowk and Srinagar — was using a Karnataka SIM to stay in touch with his Pakistani handlers, a chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police a week ago said.

The accused, identified as Ahtesham Malik, 24, got the SIM from his handlers in Pakistan when he went there in December 2011, on valid documents. He has never been to Karnataka. The police said this SIM was used by the accused to contact one of his handlers, identified as Hanzala. The police had recovered eight other SIM cards from Malik.

The chargesheet said Malik attended a rally organised by the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, and visited the LeT office in Lahore. The police have obtained non-bailable warrants against nine Pakistanis who allegedly helped Malik. The police had also arrested Malik's cousin Tauwseef Ahmed Pir and Shafqat Ali Tuggu.

Malik, who hails from Sopore in J&K, was allegedly inducted into LeT by Muzamil alias Usman, who is absconding. "Muzamil told Malik he would get him a visa for Pakistan on a recommendation letter from Hurriyat leader S A S Geelani," a police officer said. Malik got a visa on the said letter. Though the police questioned Geelani, his name is not in the chargesheet.
