In the wrong place at the wrong time

A senior IB officer who was on duty last weekend was at the receiving end of a policeman's lathi. The policeman failed to recognise the IB officer during the clash that broke out between the protesters and police at India Gate. The officer, of the rank of a DIG, had come there to file a report on the ongoing protests. The officer later told Delhi Police officers about the 'whip' he got from one of the lower functionaries of the Delhi Police.

Police have a tense 10 mins at Jantar Mantar

There was pandemonium at Jantar Mantar for ten minutes after Sheila Dikshit made her appearance at 2.15 pm on Saturday to pay her respects to the 23-year-old paramedic student. Nearly 500 protesters erupted in cries of "Sheila, go back" and began closing in on her. Mediapersons too converged on her. But for another sizeable group present there, the Chief Minister's appearance caught them off guard, literally. Senior officers of the Delhi Police, who were at the spot and caught completely unawares, went into a tizzy. Urgent orders were sent out to control the crowd. The ten minutes were the most tense for the cops. A personnel was heard saying, "Why has she come here? It has only made our job harder."

At a protest venue, it's all in the uniform

During the protests at India Gate last week, police who resorted to lathicharge after protesters turned violent, did not spare even women and children. They chased everyone who seemed to be part of the protests. While some journalists got the taste of the lathis, many managed to escape the crackdown, after showing their IDs. Police personnel, unable to tell protesters from mediapersons, basically charged at anyone who was not in a uniform.
