Wake-up call
With the elections out of the way, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit seems to be in top form, and sparing no one. After giving the municipal corporation a dressing down over usage of funds, the latest in the CM’s line of fire is Social Welfare Minister Mangat Ram Singhal. The minister, who is known to doze off during Cabinet meetings, was recently shaken out of his slumber by the CM when found snoozing during a seminar organised by the department. The CM bombarded him with questions on the Mission Convergence Scheme implemented by his department and left the minister embarrassed asking him to stay “alert” for the sake of the department.
Working out snags
The ITDC is set to revamp three of its hotels in the Capital for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. At a recent event, the ITDC boss assured the hotels would provide quality service and the best accommodation for athletes and their families. And most of his commitments received commendations and affirmation from the Commonwealth Games Federation officials, who recently visited the Capital to review Games arrangements. But for one complaint — the toilet flush was not working at ITDC-Ashoka. However, terming the problem as a ‘minor snag’,ITDC officials assured no such problem would occur during the Games.
Once bitten twice shy
Months after a Delhi policeman was reportedly bitten by an HIV positive patient, he is still panic-striken. Head Constable Rajesh Kumar, posted at the Jahangirpuri police station for the past two years, has now written to senior police officers of the Northwest district seeking a transfer. His application specifically mentions the incident where the HIV positive person bit him as he tried to stop him from beating his wife. Also referring to other “injuries” while on emergency duty, Kumar requested his seniors to transfer him.
