  • A final-year student of the National Law School of India University was stabbed to death in a brawl with at least six locals near the law school campus early Sunday morning.

The victim, Alyush Kumar (21), from Delhi, was was partying with his five friends, three boys and two girls, on Saturday evening. Past midnight, they reportedly were heading towards a lake near the Bangalore University, when their car ran out of fuel.

“A jeep carrying four people is said to have stopped to see what was happening. There seems to have been an incident after the girls were seen in the car. Two men on a motorcycle also stopped to see what was happening and got involved in the fight. One of them was carrying a knife and he stabbed Alyush Kumar,” DCP West K V Sharat Chandra said. Alyush Kumar’s friend Siddharth, who was stabbed in his thigh, provided a statement to the police.

The other friends — Samrat, Satyakam, Purva and Deepanshi — managed to escape and later returned with help to take Kumar and Siddharth to hospital.

The police on Monday said they had arrested the two men on the motorbike — Kallesh Gowda and Srinivas — in connection with the murder, the police said.

Alyush was the only son of a retired naval officer Arun Kumar, currently based in Russia, and his Dubai-based wife. Kumar joined the law school five years ago.
