Marginal rainfall was witnessed in some parts of the city on Friday after a largely dry week,even as the cloud cover continued to spare residents of scorching heat.
The monsoon which has eluded a large chunk of northern India,was expected to be generous today with the Met department predicting the possibility of “one or two spells of rains”.
“Trace rains were witnessed in some parts of the capital and the day is likely to be generally clouded with one or two spells of rains,” an official said.
Cloud cover had brought some respite from searing heat with the mercury dipping well below 40 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature settled at a comfortable 37.2 degrees Celsius,one degree above normal,as against 40.6 degrees a day before.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 29.2 during the night,the Met Office said.
The mercury has been hovering above 40 degrees Celsius for the past one week though the MeT Department had announced the arrival of monsoon in the city on June 30.
