Intensifying their demand for district headquarters of newly created Bhimnagar district in Sambhal town,the demonstrators on Saturday held a jail bharo protest. More than 50 people led by Bar Association of Sambhal and Muslim Vyapar Mandal courted arrests at ADM office around 1 pm. After detention of more than three hours,the protesters were released by SDM Anuj Kumar Jha in the evening. Jha said 63 people courted arrests at ADM court in the afternoon and they were released in the evening. One of the protesters Vijay Prakash Tyagi who is protesting at Sambhal tehsil since October 1,said the protesters will now court arrests every day. We will court arrests till the government fulfills our demand, he said. Bhimnagar is one of the three new districts which were announced by Chief Minister Mayawati on her visit to western UP on September 28. Bhimnagar district was formed by incorporating Sambhal and Chandausi tehsil of Moradabad district and Gunnaur tehsil of Badaun district. After protests by Sambhal residents against governments initial decision to make Bahjoi town in Chandausi tehsil as the district headquarters,the government had announced the district headquarters will be located on a 10 km stretch between Pawasa town in Sambhal tehsil and Bahjoi town in Chandausi tehsil.
