Her sudden deportation to Nepal may have caught Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) student Neetu Singh by surprise. But she was already aware of such a threat,as learnt from the All India Democratic Womens Association (AIDWA),whose help she had sought.
Text messages, allegedly sent by her husband Amaresh Singh on her cellphone and written statements she gave to the legal advisor of AIDWA,Milind Sahasrabuddhe, show that Amaresh,a Nepal politician, had threatened to have her deported earlier, too.
Sahasrabuddhe has forwarded two such text messages allegedly from Neetus husband, which he said were forwarded to him by Neetu on April 12. Hi fel comfort in long stay in pune govt made al arangment to dport u after completion of study. Im nt interested 2 confront u. But I claim my al goods, said the first text. The second read,g deport. Dont wory govt caring u and yr study women polic wil go wid u upto yr home. If u are wiling 2 return my goa mony n gold n comp im ready 2 take.
Sahasrabuddhe said,From the SMS,we can make out that her husband had planned to get her deported on completion of her studies. Neetu wanted to divorce him and stay and work in India. The second message makes it clear that police would be going with Neetu up to her home. And now she has actually been handed over to her parents in Nepal.
Neetu had got another threat much earlier. As per a written statement submitted to advocate Sahasrabuddhe about her trip to Nepal in November 2008: I was told that Indian intelligence bureau is after me and they helped him (husband) to trace me. I was told…I am working against the Indian government. I was almost dead and didnt know what is happening.
Neetu wanted to get a separation from Amaresh. We had decided to file for divorce in an Indian court after she completed her studies and got a job. Being a citizen of Nepal, she just had to declare in the court that she is a permanent domicile of India. Then she would have been allowed to file divorce petition in an Indian court, Sahasrabuddhe said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (special branch) Ravindra Sengaonkar said he would not comment as the matter was with the government. Sengaonkar had earlier said Neetu was deported following inputs from intelligence agencies about her involvement in anti-national activities but refused to elaborate citing security reasons. He said police were not bothered about Neetus domestic problems.
Malvika Jha,joint secretary of AIDWA,Pune, said Neetu had shown the text messages to her in November. Malvika had accompanied Neetu in June 2008 to file a complaint at Deccan Gymkhana police station against some persons who had visited the FTII,purportedly from the CBI and made inquiries about her.
Kiran Moghe,AIDWA state president, said,A non-cognizable offence was lodged at Deccan police station. But the police did not act on the complaint.
