In an attempt to break the nexus between the depot owners and halwais, the Jagraon police has nabbed Suresh Kumar, a government depot owner, for illegal sale of kerosene oil.
Informing this, ASI Hari Mittar said, “On October 13, we had raided a sweet shop where we found 3,600 litres of kerosene oil. This sweet shop is in Jagraon and is owned by Satish Kumar alias Satti. On investigations, we found that a part of this kerosene oil was supplied to Satti by Suresh Kumar, who runs a government depot in Galibransingh village. This oil should have gone to the poor people but was sold illegally to Satti during the Diwali season.”
Notable here is that apart from the illegal kerosene oil, the Jagraon police had also seized more than two quintals of khoya and other sweets that had been stored in huge amounts at a shop owned by Satish Kumar, who is absconding
The police official added, “We have come to know that this oil which was supposed to be given to the poor people for 9.30 per liter was sold off to the halwai for Rs 24-30 per liter. Suresh had supplied 400 liters of kerosene oil to Satish while the monthly quota of the oil coming to Suresh’s depot is 1000 liters. We are trying to locate other sweet shop owners where the rest of the oil was being sold and also other depot owners involved in this racket.” Satish has been remanded in judicial custody till November 5.
