Abandoned by their husbands, more than 10 women from different parts of Punjab came to meet Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, President, Lok Bhalai Party.
Ramoowalia will be taking up their cases at his forum now. Varinder Kaur of Patiala was 24 years of age when she got married to a Jalandhar-based NRI, settled in Toronto. The boy lived for one week with the girl and never came back. Kaur has been waiting for the past four years for her husband, but she has got no communication either from the boy or his family.
Same was the case with 26 years old Menakshi Verma whose father is a small time shopkeeper. She got married in october 2007, lived with husband for 20 days and after that she is waiting for him to communicate. Her husband is settled in Canada. She is having a younger sister and brother at home as well.
The case of Neelam Sharma (28) of Moga is no different. She got married in year 2006 with a Jaiton-based Canadain NRI and the groom abandoned him after spending a few days with her. These girls till now were doing nothing except waiting for their husbands.
But now they have come together under the banner of Lok Bhalai Party. Ramoowalia said, “We will be fighting for their case and will be providing all help. This is an important social issue of our party and till date I have got many cases settled. So it is yet another challenge for me.”
