Despite the ban on mining in all the rivers beds in the district,the activity continues in many pockets of Panchkula. The Panchkula mining department has detected 586 cases of illegal mining this year. They have also registered FIRs in few cases.
Official sources said that complaints of illegal mining were pouring in from Kalka,Pinjore,Barwala,Ramgarh and various pockets of the district. In Panchkula sub division illegal mining is also reported from various areas.
Though the activity is banned,we have detected 586 cases of illegal mining in Panchkula. We have also registered 12 FIRs against those indulged in the illegal activity, said the Mining Officer,Panchkula,Deepak Hooda. He said that the department has also imposed a penalty of nearly Rs 49 lakh on the violators. When ever we get any complaint from any area about illegal mining,we act immediately, he said.
Panchkula police has also pitched in to ensure that ban on mining is imposed stringently. The police has banned the entry and parking of JCB machine,tractor-trolley or any other excavating machinery near the rivers during night hours in the district.
The ban on entry and parking of the vehicles is between 7 pm to 7 am within the radius of 100 meters of the rivers beds in any manner what-so-ever, said Deputy Commissioner of Police,Panchkula,Maneesh Chaudhary,Any person found guilty for violation,shall be liable for punishment under section 188 of IPC Police said the ban on the entry of vehicles during the night has been imposed to ensure that neither any mining activity takes place during this time and nor any material is ferried from the river beds.
