Pranab Mukherjee has asserted that UPA is not disintegrating.

Asserting that UPA is not disintegrating, Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that it ‘was very much intact’ while at the same time the NDA is breaking.

Addressing a press conference here, Mukherjee said, "UPA is not a political entity and it is very much intact... it is not disintegrating".

The veteran Congress leader said even though there were hiccups in seat sharing talks between Congress and its alliance partners like Samajwadi Party and RJD in UP and Bihar respectively, the alliance was still in place.

"During their press conference held recently in Lucknow, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan, have reiterated their support to UPA.

Therefore it is not disintegrating," Mukherjee said.

He added that at the same time, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, Biju Janata Dal and Telugu Desam Party, all these have left the NDA, which is breaking.

"Sonia Gandhi as chairperson of UPA is coordinating at her level while I as floor leader in Lok Sabha, am trying to coordinate with other floor leaders in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, to strengthen the UPA," Mukherjee said.

"Development of rural infrastructure through Bharat Nirman has been achieved successfully... there is a difference between performance and commitment, Mukherjee said.

Referring to BJP's 2004 ‘India Shining’ election campaign, he said that "though we are not using terms like 'India Shining', we have been successful".

The winner the congressBy: R. Bhakther Solomon | 05-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Pranab is right. There is no need to worry about the UPA getting the maximum number of seats in the election. In fact, the Congress will emerge as the single largest party with around 175 seats, if not 200 seats. It may need an additional 75 to 100 seats. The DMK alliance will give 15 seats, SP or BSP another 25 to 30, Trinamool 15, NCP 15, RJD and Paswan combination another 15. So it will comfortably sail home and will from the Govt. Even if its falls short of this magic number of 272 other minor parties will come to its aid. Again, one need not worry much about the pre poll alliances. What matters is the post poll alliance. Once the third front combined strength falls short of 200 seats, naturally the minor party leaders from this camp will look for greener pastures and for them the Congress will be an easy option rather than BJP. So let us wait for the good verdict from the voters. who will be next PM from Congress . Manmohan or Pranab or Rahul ? or anyone outside congress?
UPA is very much intactBy: Kumar Iyer | 05-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Mr. Pranab Mukherjee should first introspect why the Regional Leaders of UPA have charted out their own agenda and have made mockery of Congress in their states by alloting few seats and dictating that they are the masters and congress should abide by their dictate. He should not be much bothered about NDA disintergrtating. The way congress is treated by the local chapras, in my fair opinion, congress will not get more than 80 to 90 seats and they will be at the mercy of this regional chapras after the election or else they will be forced to support one of these regional party in forming the Government. Let Good sense prevail amongst the youth of the country and let them vote for a stable Govt, be it BJP or Cong and not allow these local / Regional leaders to raise their heads and make a mockery of parliament election.
Wonders of UPABy: Varinder | 05-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward 99% blinds can see that UPA consituents are fighting each other with the exception of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.
