Builders and developers of Orange City,a complex of bungalows at Kasara,have been fined Rs 2.55 lakh for illegal construction of two concrete barriers,the state government said on Wednesday.

Replying to a question raised in the Legislative Assembly by Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and others,Minister for Water Resources Sunil Tatkare said the two concrete barriers on Bhasta river had been built illegally by Pratik builders and developers and for three years water was used illegally.

Tatkare said a case has been registered at the Kasara police stationand the government would ensure that the barriers are demolished within a week. When members demanded action against the concerned officers,he said an inquiry would be conducted and action would be taken within three months. Shinde alleged that the bungalow project and the illegal barrier had deprived tribals of water.
