In a blistering attack on the Mayawati government in UP,Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that development has come to a standstill in the biggest state of the country. "Whatever (development scheme) we try to implement, the BSP government tries to stop it. Take the example of Bundelkhand. Even elsewhere in UP,development has come to a halt," he said laying the foundation of a degree college in his parliamentary constituency. The 39-year-old leader said in the last five years, the central government has tried to develop both Amethi and Rae Bareli, represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi. He said the central government tried to do all it could for the development of roads, power and education and for job creation. "The problem is that UP government does not support us and tries its best to stall the project," he said, asking people to make Congress victorious in the next assembly elections so that the fruits of development can reach them. Referring to the Rs 3,000 crore Hindustan Paper Mill in Amethi constituency, the young Congress MP said the Centre has given all the necessary clearances. "But the UP government has stopped it," he rued, adding India will progress only if UP progresses. To drive home his point,he said,"UP will march only when you have electricity, education and development".
