
In a meeting of the Municipal Corporation held today, the councillors raised the issue of muddy water being supplied in some areas and the slow pace of development work in the city.
Councillors Anu Chatrath and Pam Rajput said there was a scarcity of potable water in the city.
Councillor Davinder Singh Babla said the community centre in his ward has not been completed for the last two years. “The park is in need of repairs and the fountains that were installed are not functioning,” he complained.
Councillor Jatinder Bhatia raised the issue of engaging consultants for the augmentation of water supply and sewerage under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission at 10 per cent service charge. “For the same work, the corporations in Gujarat have paid 3 per cent charge,” he said.
Councillor Harjinder Kaur pointed out that the streetlights in Sector-44 market were not functioning even though these were recently installed. She added, “While the widening of V-6 roads in Sector 10 and 44 were taken up as pilot projects, the work is still not complete. Revised estimate needs to be passed for laying paver blocks. This could be done keeping in view the budget constrains.”
Commissioner Dr Roshan Sinkaria stressed that the MC was not short of funds. “The process of tendering and passing estimates takes a few months. The councillors should not worry about funds,” he said.
