Brothers Kuly,Manj and Surj of Rhythm,Dhol,Bass (RDB) fame talk about their latest single,Snoop Dogg and Bollywood music
From a hit single Aaja Mahi to singing for Bollywood films, tell us how your music sense has grown?
The journey has been great music changes day by day and as producers and singers we have to make sure we step the game up. Coming from the UK and now living in North America,we have the ability to come up with music ideas that are ground-breaking for Indian Music.
What are your musical influences?
We love all bands and artists as we always have to keep in touch with competiton and new music styles, but personal favourites are Timberland and David Guetta. We really like Vishal-Shekhar as they always come up with great beats and tunes for the Indian film industry.
What are the kind of hardships you faced when you entered the music industry in UK?
It has to be criticism, but we overcame that soon because of our fans.
Tell us a little about your latest single,De De Chumma.
The song has been produced by us and the beat is specifically for the dance floor and clubs. We wanted to make an unusual track and wanted to add just a hint of sexiness in it. Chumma is a word that has not been used since Amitabh Bachchans hit song Jumma Chumma De De,from the 1991 film,Hum,so we thought we would re-vamp the word RDB style. Desi rapper Blitz has done an excellent job with the song and he has mentioned names of Indian actresses too in the lyrics, which will be enjoyed by the Indian audiences. We feel the song has a great mainstream feel to it and will appeal to non-Indians alike.
How did you stumble into music?
Its in our blood since our father used to do kirtan in the Gurudwara and he pushed us to learn baja and tabla. Growing up in the UK,western influences are visible in our music we get to hear house,hip-hop,dance,rock and pop. So we keep all these styles in mind and create fusion music.
How was your experience of performing with Snoop Dogg for the Singh is Kinng title track?
He is an absolute gem and a very down-to-earth person. And hes very tall. While shooting for the video of Singh is Kinng,he saw our turbans and wanted to wear one too.
What are the other projects you are currently working on?
We have done the title track of Yamla Pagla Deewana using Mohammad Rafi vocals from the original song.
How has your Bollywood experience been?
Overall, its been a great experience. We loved working with Sabbir Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala for Kambakkht Ishq and,of course,Akshay Kumar has done a lot for us.
