With the names of team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his family reportedly missing from Lok Sabha electoral rolls,Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Debashis Gupta said on Tuesday that it was being looked into.
“Somebody has said that and I have asked it to be looked into,” Gupta said in Ranchi.
The CEO said electoral registration was done by the sub-divisional officer and the deputy commissioner of Ranchi has been asked to verify it.
Dhoni was a prominent figure and the names of his family members should be there, the CEO said.
He said “as per the legal process names can be registered up to the last date of the filing of nomination by candidates.”
The Lok Sabha elections in the state will be held in two phases on April 16 and 23. Ranchi, where the Dhonis live,is going to polls on April 23 with April 4 being the last date for nomination of candidates.
Meanwhile,Dhoni Fan Club president Jitendra Singh said there should be a provision for the cricketer and his family to cast votes through postal ballots or any other means.
