A major fire broke out at Harekrishna diamond manufacturing unit in Katargam area of Surat on Monday evening damaging diamonds and other valuables approximately worth Rs 80 lakh, police said.
The fire brigade officials of Surat Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot and extinguish the flame after two-hour battle. The fire broke out in the top floor of a four-storey building of the diamond firm in Katargam area. The cause of fire was due to short circuit in a boiler machine, officials said.
A complaint was registered in this connection at Katargam police station by firm owner Naresh Lunagaria on Tuesday. In his complaint, Nareshbhai mentioned that diamonds and other valuables approximately worth Rs 80 lakh were gutted in fire.
