Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Friday flagged the problem of "green terror" with party colleagues, telling them that activities of radical Muslim outfits were as much a matter of concern as the "saffron terror" involving extremist Hindu outfits.

At the daylong samvad baithak of Congress Working Committee members and union ministers at Surajkund, Singh was learnt to have drawn attention to the fact that a section of Muslims were becoming "more belligerent". His strong observation created a buzz in Congress circles, sources present in Surajkund said.

The baithak otherwise remained focused on ways to ensure better cohesion between government and party, and discussed the setting up of a "coordination committee" with three sub-groups on specific issues.

Issues like the party's stand on coalition politics and Telangana etc., were left for discussion at a "chintan shivir" likely to be held in January. Some leaders did, however, ask the party leadership to take note of the rise of regional players, and respond to "regional aspirations" to counter their influence.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi asked the party and government to understand each other's compulsions. They needed to work "cohesively together" to ensure a renewed mandate from the people, she is learnt to have said.
