When senior separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq met Bollywood producer Bunty Walia and director Rahul Dholakia on Wednesday for kehwa, he didn’t know his invite for a dinner to actors Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kapoor would land him in a spot.
After Walia told a news agency that Mirwaiz had invited the actors (Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kapoor) for dinner, the head priest of Kashmir was flooded by embarrassing enquiries from local media about the dinner for film stars.
Mirwaiz’s political and press secretary Shahid-ul-Islam said he knows Dholakia and had requested the Mirwaiz for the meeting. “They came last Wednesday afternoon and had kehwa with Mirwaiz,” he said. “I introduced them to the Mirwaiz. He (Mirwaiz) was nice to them. The dinner invitation was just a casual affair.” He said that the issue was being unnecessarily blown out of proportion. “They are shooting the film and have promised to reflect truth about Kashmir in it. It is good,” he said. “In fact, they have already shot the Friday congregation in Jamia Masjid”.
The Parzania director is shooting his latest film Lamha in Kashmir. “They came to meet me and requested permission to shoot in Jamia Masjid. I had been told that he is a good director and has made a good film on Gujarat, so I said okay. I only requested to truthfully reflect Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said.
