Disaster teams come to rescue of Junagadh citizens

With heavy rains lashing Junagadh,three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Junagadh to assist with evacuation and rescue operations.

With heavy rains lashing Junagadh,three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Junagadh to assist with evacuation and rescue operations. They have been armed with motorized boats and flood relief equipment. The remaining 15 teams are on a high alert in Gandhinagar.

Relief camps have been set up for the displaced families where food packets and other necessary items are being distributed among the evacuated people.

More than 850 families in Junagadh have been evacuated after the heavy showers and flash floods that hit the district.

“Some 400 families in Veraval taluka were shifted to higher grounds last night following the heavy rains. In Mangrol,over 480 families have been shifted till today,” district officials said.

According to district officials,two inter-city trains – Veraval-Rajkot and Veraval-Ahmedabad – and Jabalpur-bound trains were cancelled as water flooded the Saurashtra region.

However,water in many parts of Mangrol and Veraval have begun receding since this morning.
