A discussion on the theme, employability gap, was held by the Society for Human Resource Management, India, in which various issues related to learning practices in education and professions were discussed here on Saturday. IT advisor to the Haryana government, Sastry Tumuluri, was the chief speaker. He addressed the gathering and said that the learning process is a three part framework including consumption, production and engagement. "Online media has gained relevance in today's time and and to depend only on physical forums is not the best thing to do," Sastry said. He exemplified his own routine and said that he linked an activity with a device and a place and that everyone should be conscious of their information sources and their management.

Sastry emphasised that the world is evolving fast and the education system is age-old and unable to match the pace of the changes in society. He compared the changes in education system that occurred over the years with the industrial revolution. "The streamlining of education system is an equivalent to factories with assembly lines where a child is put in the first standard who comes out twelve years later, with the stamp of the year of graduation as his identification," Sastry said.

He added that knowledge sharing sessions did not result in much sharing of knowledge as the people don't have the required openness in sharing and instead are judgemental. According to him, a similar trend was observed in production of knowledge that most people consider 'risky' as they are afraid are making a fool of themselves.

It was observed in the discussion that ensued that even though industry and education sector are expanding exponentially, they are missing out on the larger picture of scripting their expectation from each other. Indian IT industry has emerged as one of the most promising industries over the years and provides employment to large number of talent pool. However, the industry is facing lot of challenges in hiring skilled work force who are employable as per industry requirement.
