Lack of basic amenities at the primary school at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was highlighted during an inspection by Municipal Commissioner V P Singh and Councillor Saurabh Joshi on Wednesday. This is the only primary school in ward 2.

There is absence of proper classrooms in the school that has around 250 students. Clean drinking water is not available for children. The staff and students have to share the same toilets. There is neither a proper playground nor principal and staff rooms.

PGI Director Dr Yogesh Chawla and his team members were later called by Joshi to show the dilapidated condition of the school. Residents demanded provision of a playway school and creche.

Joshi requested the Commissioner to turn the school into a smart school. Residents also presented a memorandum to the Commissioner demanding recarpeting of roads, augmenting road gullies and beautifying as well as maintaining parks of the residential area.
