Display of rare coins, currency & stamps on December 11

Coinpex-2012, an exhibition of rare coins, currency and stamps, will be held from December 11-13 at Sonal Hall, Karve Road in the city. Coinpex will display 50 Philatelic frames displaying exhibits of eminent philatelist who have won gold medals at MahaPex 2012, a state level exhibition held in January. It will also have 35 dealers' booth which will enable the Philatelists and Numismatists to add new items in their collections.

The exhibition will feature Penny Black, world's first postage stamp, Scinde Dawk, first stamp of Asia, Shivaji Maharaj's Silver Hon, Asia's first stamp issued by Sind Province in 1852 and Pigeonogram among many others. The Penny Black was the world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system.

To commemorate the unique date of 12/12/2012, a special cover on Pigeonogram will be released in which 12 pigeons carrying the message of "Philately is the king of hobbies" from Exhibition Hall to Deccan Gymkhana Post office. The exhibition is being organised by the International Collector's Society of Rare Items and will be inaugurated by Col K C Mishra, VSM, Post Master General, Pune Region.Vispi Dastur, philatelist and international juror will be given the Life Time Achievement Award and Kishore Chandak from Solapur will be felicitated for his achievements in the field of Philately.

Along with the felicitation ceremony, a stamp and coin auction will also be held by Marudhar Arts and Auctions, Rajgors Auctions and Oswal Antiques on December 11-12. This will be followed by a blood donation camp on December 13 for which 50 people have already registered themselves. International Collectors' Society of Rare Items has been actively promoting collections and hobbies among younger generation for the past 17 years.
