The state government on Thursday ordered suspension of three police officers of Kanpur district in connection with the September 27 rape and murder of Divya,a Class VI student,in Kanpur.
The government has asked ADG Brij Lal to probe the charges against then DIG/SSP of Kanpur,Prem Prakash, for showing laxity in supervising the investigation into the case.
The three suspended officials are SHO Anil Kumar,Circle Officer Laxmi Niwas Mishra and Additional SP Lal Bahadur.
The move followed a report of the CB-CID that probed the role of the policemen, besides investigating the case.
The case relates to the death of Divya,a student of Gyan Sthali School, following sexual assault on September 27. A few days later, the police booked one Munna Lodhi,a neighbour of the victim. The case took a turn after DNA tests proved Munna was innocent and Piyush Verma ,son of school owner Chadra Pal Verma, was the main culprit. Munna was freed on bail on January 3 after 89 days in jail.
