  • Students of Guru Nanak International Public School celebrated the festival of Diwali by organising inter-house exhibition of Diwali handicrafts, which were prepared by the students themselves.

The items prepared by students included different types of candles, diyas and pooja thalis which were very colourful and decorated with ribbons, sparkles, beads, shells, stars, mirrors, glitters etc. Candles displayed were of varying shapes and sizes — ranging from small diya shaped to floral, floating, minar shaped, dome shaped and some were even decorated with bows and frills made of wax.

Every “house” displayed their items in a very innovative way - decorating it with colourful dupattas, pictures of gods and goddesses and making various designs of Rangoli ranging from geometrical to floral patterns. The whole display was overwhelming. There was a stall put up by the primary section of the school, which had candles made in the shape of comic characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Tin-Tin, Shin Chan, Spiderman, Superman and Batman.

The management of the school including the director, P Kahlon, general secretary Gurbir Singh Sarna and the manager, Advocate Harbhajan Singh appreciated this endeavour of the students and encouraged them to celebrate every festival with the same spirit and enthusiasm. “Through this exhibition, students tried to convey in their small way and taught us how this pious festival can be celebrated in other way than by just burning crackers and polluting the environment, “ said principal Gurmant Kaur Gill.
