DMK attacks Centre over diluted’ Lanka resolution

The party said the government did not do anything to strengthen the resolution,as demanded by it.

The DMK on Thursday said the UPA government had let down the Sri Lankan Tamils by allowing a diluted resolution to be passed at the United National Human Rights Council meeting. The party said the government did not do anything to strengthen the resolution,as demanded by it.

There was a huge hype created about the United States draft resolution,as if something substantial was going to come out of it. The people were led to believe that it would help protect and assist Lankan Tamils. But the draft that was eventually adopted today was wasted by dilution, and thus rendered meaningless, said DMK president M Karunanidhi.

Saying he was disappointed over reports that India did not seek to incorporate the amendments sought by the DMK in the resolution,Karunanidhi added that his party had taken the right decision by walking out of the UPA.

He said the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation led by his party would decide the next course of action.

India did not even move the amendments. They should have acted on time. Indias support does not make any difference now. New Delhi has more responsibility than any other country which supported the resolution, but it did not perform the role it ought have performed, said DMK leader Tiruchi Siva.

The United States resolution was diluted,we dont know by whom. But India did not do anything to stop the dilution and strengthen it by bringing suitable amendments. India has let down the Sri Lankan Tamils. The Government of India was simply not ready to listen to their grievances, he added.
