Harried with the political uproar over A Raja’s alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum, the DMK has decided to strongly rally around the former Telecom Minister through a statewide campaign that will kickstart from December 24.
The ruling party in Tamil Nadu will not only defend Raja in these meetings but will also ‘let secrets out of the bag’ about an emboldened Opposition leader,AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa.
The party will remind the people of her “scams”,sources said.
Senior DMK leaders will hold various meetings across Tamil Nadu from December 24,following a call by party patriarch and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to party cadres. He wants them to reach out to people through meetings and rallies in order to highlight the various alleged scams during the Jayalalithaa regime.
Law Minister Duraimurugan,Union Minister S Jegathratchagan and former Union Minister T R Baalu will address various public meetings on the topic ‘The Truth about Spectrum,’ N Siva,DMK MP and party’s propaganda secretary said.
The meetings will cover among other places Chennai,Coimbatore,Tiruchirappalli and Cuddalore between December 24 and 30,Siva said in a statement.
He said Opposition parties and the media were “targetting” Raja as if he has “swindled a huge amount,” adding that this was nothing but an effort to topple the Karunanidhi-led DMK government which was striving for the welfare of the oppressed.
He termed as “lies” the allegations against Raja, who has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning in connection with its probe into the 2G spectrum allocation.
On Tuesday,Karunanidhi had asked partymen to reach out to the people with the scams targetting arch-rival Jayalalithaa.
“You should reach out to the people with incidents including those that led to the burning of three women students and the case against her at Bangalore,” he had said.
Karunanidhi was apparently referring to the burning of a university bus allegedly by AIADMK workers after Jayalalithaa was convicted in the ‘Pleasant Stay Hotel’ case. The arson had killed three students. He also wants to remind the people about the ongoing case on her disproportionate assets in Bangalore.
