DMs to launch drive against polythene bags

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed its district magistrates to launch a drive against the use of low-grade plastic and polythene bags.

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed its district magistrates to launch a drive against the use of low-grade plastic and polythene bags.

“The district magistrates have been asked to strictly enforce the ban on the manufacture and use of low-grade plastic in the state. They have been directed to launch a drive in collaboration with the pollution control board and urban local bodies,” Principal Secretary Alok Ranjan said on Friday.

He added: “The district magistrates have been asked to take stern action against those manufacturing low-grade plastic products under the Environment Conservation Act.”

In accordance with the Central regulations,use of recycled or polythene bags of less than 20 microns has been banned.
