Former Left Front minister and CPM MLA from Canning Abdur Rezzaq Mollah, who was hospitalised after being beaten up by alleged Trinamool Congress goons, today exhorted policemen not to blindly follow diktats of leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

"Why do you indulge in sycophancy? What will you get from it? It was we who increased the salary of policemen. We gave you the right to form trade unions but they took the right away from you. You should work with honour," Mollah said at a rally organised by the CPM at Ghatakpukur in South 24 Parganas.

This was Mollah's first public rally after he was released from hospital a week ago.

Calling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "Hitler in a sari", Mollah said the government had done precious little for Muslims. "How many from this community have got government jobs? She wants to scrape through the panchayat elections with goons, extortionists and police. But they will not be able to do that. We will crush them."

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and CPM politburo member Surya Kanta Misra took a dig at the chief minister's visit to slain Kolkata Police ASI Tapas Choudhury's house after Governor M K Narayanan's visit and those of CPM leaders like him. "If we had known she would go there, we would have gone there much earlier. Mollah was hit in the waist. But he did not lose his morale. We are not spineless,'' Misra said.

The CPM leader exhorted those who had suffered at the hands of the Trinamool. "There are workers of the party who have suffered. We have to mobilise all and wage a war against the party that has become a tyrant," Misra said.
