  • Dutta again debriefed by the CID

Officer-in-charge of Sankrail police station, Atindranath Dutta, who was kidnapped by Maoists on October 20 and released two days later, was today called to the Bhabani Bhavan and again debriefed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

He was shown video clippings of the several news conferences he had attended post his release.

“We asked him why he made those statements (to the news channels) and to whom. There are a lot of discrepancies emerging in his statements. We are checking all aspects,” said a police officer.

The team also asked the officer to explain why he was not carrying arms when he had gone to his quarters for lunch on the day of abduction.

Dutta was also asked to draw a sketch of Kishenji and other Maoists, but he excused himself saying he could not remember their faces.

“He said he was kept blindfolded on most occasions, and therefore he could not recollect their faces. There were other questions like why he did not rush to the police station even after hearing gunshots or why he did not make a phone call to the police lines or to his senior officers. These questions remain unanswered,” added the officer.

Dutta was also asked about the other leaders he had seen while in the captivity of Maoists.

“We have heard that Maoist leader Bikash was also there and we checked with him whether he had seen him. But Dutta said he did not meet Bikash,” the officer added.

    ... contd.
