BJP workers led by their leaders staged demonstrations in various parts of the capital.

A BJP-sponsored bandh to protest hike in bus fares and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities had partial impact in the city on Friday with only some markets remaining closed and traffic plying normally.

Schools, government offices and other institutions functioned normally.

Braving chilly weather, BJP workers led by their leaders staged demonstrations in various parts of the capital, holding placards and raising slogans against the city government for "failing" to curb inflation and increasing bus and metro fares.

Markets in BJP dominated areas such as Greater Kailash, Vikas Marg, Lakshmi Nagar and Chandni Chowk were closed as BJP workers carried out protest rallies amid tight security deployed by the Delhi police to avoid any untoward incident.

"The bandh has been called to protest anti-government policies. Bus fares have surged to such an extent that people do not prefer travelling in the buses at all. Similarly food prices have hit the roof. How will a common man survive?" senior BJP leader VK Malhotra said.

Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which is supporting the bandh, said transport and essential services were kept outside the purview of the bandh so that people do not face any inconvenience.

Is there any place for the poor in India?By: Fool Voter | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Once voted to power, the people have to pay the price. Price rise, corruption should have been the issues, unfortunately that failed to happen.Rather, these issues have been defeated again and again. Sometime, its looks like that there is no place for the poor and majority people of the countryin its land. So for the next five years the people have to suffer and then only will get a chance to give their verdict. Till such time, at least the media should draw the attention of govt.Is there any arithmatical formula to manage the livelyhood with the mere Rs.80/- which is being given as daily wage under NREGA of the Bharat Nirman for a small four member family or is it not a policy of the govt to cheat the poor people. Media should not be pro-govt., they should bring out true issues. The great Indian scams - Modhu Koda, Telecom scam Raja, who have looted the livelyhood of the poor, but the aam admi's party is keeping silence, as if the people of the nation are just fool.
BJP will be back..By: Sannath | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward All idiotic Indian English news channels are responsible for all the problem in india, are they sold themselves to congress?.This is Hindustan and this is not Congresstan, Congress is outdated and idiotic party, all people look like cheaters. From the time UPA GOVT came to power all the problems trippled and will increase.... Did anybody notice that,They went to washington with many number delegates on many occasions for the 26/11 issue wasting public money, with zero result, that every common man predict the result. Is that not waste?, we should not allow price rise which affects "Aam aadmi".All cunning people are in congress. We want BJP at the center. We do not want any minority appeasing govt at the center, where this govt has even made their life hell with price rises....People whoever has voted this govt are responsible for all the new problems created.
What should BJP do ?By: Atul Mahajan | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward What should BJP do ? Critics should tell and then comment like some of the comments like fooling common man. Mehangai is the main issue and opposition party is taking it rightly. What is that BJP or opposition party should do? Critics should specify it.
fooling the common manBy: uthamarayanan | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Pity the party with a difference whose popularity at the nadir owing to their internecine quarrels, leadership tussle, falling oblong at the feet of money power in Karnatka and losing grip of the constituenceis going the congress way , so what else to do except calling a bandh at the drop of a cap, giving an image as if this price hike happened only yesterday. Hey politicians how long do you think you can cheat people? Be responsible enough in not disturbing the people. If you really care go and fast under a shamiana in Delhi without disturbing the cmmon man in India.
The BJP...By: Roy | 13-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward question about price rises & the common man...credible newz sources tell us that a Yedi or 'yeti' of Karnataka spent around 1.7 crores of the common mans money or tax to rephrase that to refurbish his bungalow...whilst the expenses of other BJP ministers totalled over 4.3 crores of rupees on refurbishing their homes. The BJP dimwits are corrupt...cheats & liars to the core & the Indian populace must know that. Their disruptions in turn has surely led to loss of revenue to the state...are they not like the commies of Kerala? Disruptive rather than progressive
