Rustom Soonawala,a Dadar-based doctor accused of raping his patient, has told Khar police that he had not escaped police custody but was following his lawyers instruction.
The court had granted Soonawala interim relief till June 11 and directed him to appear before the Khar police station as soon as possible.
Police said Soonawala,in his statement Thursday, denied the charges against him by the Orissa native. Soonawala told the police that while he was being escorted to the police station on May 18,his lawyer called him and asked him not to go to there and he did as told.
We were not able to conduct a medical examination of the doctor as the court had directed against it till June 11, said API Asha Korke.
Meanwhile, the Parsi community has come out in support of Soonawala. Over 200 Parsis gathered outside the sessions court last week when the court was hearing his plea for anticipatory bail.
The victims case is being pushed by Aam Admi Party. AAP member Anjali Damania has been following up on the matter.
The victim had told police she and her husband went to Soonawala for regular check-up May 17,when he told her that her health had improved 99 per cent and that she could conceive if she wished.
The victim said she had been childless for seven years. According to victim, the doctor asked her if she wanted to conceive immediately and when she replied that both she and her husband were keen on having a child,Soonawala asked her husband to go out of the room.
He then allegedly locked the room and raped her.
