Doctor running private hospital caught in Navjot Kaur Sidhu-led sting operation, held

Posing as a patient, Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Health) Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu today conducted a sting operation and caught a government doctor who was running a private hospital in Mohali while he was supposed to be officially posted in Sangrur district. Sidhu posed as a patient named " Nafisa" and caught Dr Sameer Kaushal against whom she had received complaints.

Late in the evening the Mohali Police arrested Kaushal. Mohali SSP GPS Bhullar said, "We have registered a case of cheating, government employee indulging in unlawful trade practises and Prevention of Corruption Act against Kaushal after taking legal opinion on the statement of Laxman Singh Chatha, vice-president of the Panchayat Union, Punjab, who is the complainant in the case, and arrested the accused doctor."

"On August 6 panchayat members of Kohrian village in Sangrur approached me that the medical officer posted in the Community Health Centre, Dr Sameer Kaushal, has never come to the village as they have never seen their doctor as they know that he has a hospital in Mohali. So I told the Civil Surgeon of Sangrur Dr HS Bali to get the matter inquired and give me the report within two day, but 15 days passed he did not give any report," said Sidhu. She said, "Then I got the information that Kaushal is applying for VRS on September 1, as then one pays three months salary and is relieved or three month notice to the government. So I today decided to catch him red handed.''

"I went to Amar Hospital in Sector 70, Mohali as a patient with covering my face with my dupatta and my PA became my brother-in-law we went to this hospital and there I said that I am a Muslim woman with the name Nafisa and got myself registered by paying Rs 250 and got the OPD card made, as I complained of severe stomach pain. Then the staff there guided me into the examination room of Dr Sameer Kaushal where Kaushal came and told me to lie down and he started examining me, then I removed the dupatta from my face and he was shocked to see me and by that time I made a missed call to PA and he along with others came inside the room, then the doctor had nothing to say. I just said that it is charitable hospital and he was doing social service here. But when I confronted him he agreed that he was running this hospital," said Sidhu.
