Doctors say Barasat woman may not have been gangraped

In a twist to the alleged incident of a gangrape in Barasat, doctors, who conducted the post mortem of the 45-year-old victim said prima facie it did not look like the woman was not raped.

Although the team of doctors at RG Kar Hospital is was yet to submit the post mortem report, sources said the victim did not have any external signs of rape.

"The 45-year-old have no injury mark on her private parts as is common in a gangrape case. What it looks like is that she has been strangled to death. The injury on her head was a result of being beaten up after she was killed. Probably the killers wanted to make sure that she was dead," said a senior official of the hospital.

The official said that the allegation that her husband was forced to consume acid was also not very conclusive. "If he was forced to swallow acid, he would have resisted and the spilled acid would have left marks on his face or other part of the body. But there was no such sign," he said.

The CID, which has taken over the probe, refused to give any detail. Shibaji Ghosh, ADG (CID), said: "We can't make any official statement till we get the post-mortem report."

The body of the woman was found on Saturday near a brick kiln in Barasat. She had allegedly been gangraped and her husband who went looking for her was allegedly made to consume acid. Police had arrested one person in this connection.
