  • What does a dog who believes he has supernatural powers do when he is accidentally ejected from a prime time serial? In the film Bolt, he learns to rough it out on the streets of Manhattan and thus discover that he is just an ordinary dog. Bolt is the first Walt Disney film to be released in 3D format in India.

Thanks to the 3D effect, children can look forward to feeling a part of the action rather than being mere spectators. Since special glasses are needed, the film will be screened only in specialised 3D theatres in the city.

The voice over for Bolt, done by John Travolta in the original, will be done by TV actor Vishal Malhotra in the Hindi version. “Animation is very liberating. It allows you to experiment and try out different techniques,” says Malhotra, 27, who has been associated with children’s serials with Disney for 12 years. He was accompanied by fellow TV actor Kavita Kaushik, who ensures that the cat Millie talks in fluent Haryanvi. “I was surprised when Walt Disney allowed me to speak in Haryanvi. But my character had scope for that as she is wicked in her own way,” explains the actor who can be seen in the serial FIR. The Hindi version will also have original soundtrack by Mohit Chauhan and Tara Venkatesan.

Bolt was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and has been directed by Chris Williams and Byron Howard. Releasing this Friday, it can also be seen in 2D format. Walt Disney also plans to release two other 3-D films, G-Force and UP in the coming months.
