Doll museum ready to welcome visitors again

The International Doll Museum is set to reopen after a complete makeover.

The International Doll Museum is set to reopen after a complete makeover. The museum will have 300 dolls on display, including 200 from 30 countries like Denmark,Germany,Netherlands,Spain,Russia and Korea, among others.

India will be represented through the 50 dolls from across the country. New additions include dolls from Orissa,Meghalaya and Gujarat.

Located in Sector 23,the museum is now trying to get dolls from African countries to fill the gaps in its collection.

The museum has four different sections — History of Dolls,Indian Dolls,International Dolls and a Children Activity Centre. In the History of Dolls section,a brief history of the doll is showcased, right from the Harappa Civilization to the lean Barbie.

An added attraction is the German toy train, which has been repaired and is ready to run on tracks.

V N Singh, the nodal officer of the Le Corbusier Centre and a consultant in the Museum and Arts Office, says,“With a new look, the museum is ready to open its doors to public with a renewed enthusiasm.”

A gift shop has also been set up in the museum, which will stock souvenirs of these dolls in the form of mouse-pads,mugs,paintings and key-chains. “Selling souvenirs would ensure that the museum stays in public memory,” Singh adds.
