Two days after a deputy inspector general of the West Bengal Police was accused of torturing his domestic help, a 13-year-old girl injured herself while trying to escape from the flat of her employer, an advocate, on Monday.
No complaint has been filed but the police has registered a suo motu case and forwarded it to the court.
The incident occurred at 1 pm, when the wife and mother-in-law of advocate J K Dey were at home. According to local residents, Champa Das, was trying to escape by scaling down the verandah of the second floor flat of Lata Apartments on the Beliaghata main road. But her hand slipped and she landed on a tarpaulin shade just below the verandah. From there she fell on the ground.
“Champa said she did not like to stay there as she missed her brothers back home. She received minor injuries on her leg, neck and head,” said a neighbour. According to the police, Champa was brought to the house a week ago by her father Shantu Das, a resident of Jalpara near the Dhapa area.
“She was sad and wanted to go back home to her brothers. She said she could not eat here as she felt that her brothers would be hungry at home,” the police said. Her parents took her back.
