  • ‘Pistol King’ Jaspal Rana is quite candid when it comes to expressing his displeasure about the kind of facilities being given to Indian shooters. The Doha Asian Games hero, who was in the state capital on Friday to attend a felicitation ceremony, said that it seems the Indian government expects a ‘bakra’ (goat) to do a lion’s job.

Elaborating on the statement he explained, “I feel really sorry for the kind of facilities that are at the disposal of the Indian shooters. But (they) are expected to shoot medals in big events.”

The three-gold star said: “Frankly, I did not expect to win at Doha. I have not received even a single cartridge for the past two years. Now think about the problems faced by the juniors.”

Rana said he was “lucky” to have been included in the Indian contingent despite lashing out at the system. “I hope I do not have to pay the price after the event now,” he said in a lighter vein.

“I have seen that whoever speaks out — be it Dhanraj Pillay in hockey or Sourav Ganguly in cricket, has to pay a price by being ousted from the side. But I cannot help it. That’s my temperament. My father Narain Singh Rana has taught me never to tolerate anything wrong. I have been vocal since 1994 and I will continue to be so. It is your duty to highlight the wrong around you although it is not always ‘practical’ to do so,” the 30-year-old said.

    ... contd.
