Civic activists have come out in the open against the Pune Municipal Corporation administration’s proposal in the controversial issue related to the building constructed by Vyas Construction owned by Girish Vyas,son-in-law of former chief minister Manohar Joshi.

“The PMC should not return the money to Vyas Construction. It is improper on the civic body to take such a stand and could lead to many others doing illegal work seeking return of money,” said Maj Gen (Retd) SC N Jathar of Nagrik Chetana Manch.

Jathar along with Sujit Patwardhan of Parivartan said the PMC has already paid money to the original owner of the plot reserved for a school in the development plan.

He demanded that the PMC blacklist the construction company and should not allow any permission for construction activity. “The company should be blacklisted in the entire state,” Jathar said.

The offer of land in Mundhwa offered by the construction company should not be accepted by the civic body,Jathar said, adding,“The reservation of a school in the development plan is done as per the rules and requirements of the region. A plot that is far away is of no use.”

With the court directing to resolve the issue, municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade in a proposal to the standing committee suggested that the civic body take over 22 unoccupied flats in the building constructed by Vyas Constructions and return Rs 25 lakh and the Mundhwa land given by the developer as compensation to PMC.

Over a decade ago Vyas Construction had submitted building plans on behalf of the land owner, seeking permission for construction on plot no. 110,Prabhat Road in Erandwane. The PMC had refused permission on the grounds that the plot was reserved for a primary school.

The state government later ordered the civic chief to inspect the land and submit a report if any compromise is possible.
